COSMOLOGY
"Do I dare
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions
which a minute will reverse."
   -T.S. Eliot

In the beginning
One knows only self
And the rhythmic pulse
Of wet warm darkness
Slowly, muffled sound penetrates
Ignorance, and one grows
Aware of otherness, until
Light bursts forth
Accompanied by pain.
All revolves around
The Ego. The child is the crux
Of its own universe.

The view quickly shifts and
There are other bodies, strange
Attractions and invisible bonds that
Redefine the center.
The world is not flat. The sun
Itself is not the center of
The universe, which is
Expanding, but will collapse.
Even that is a lie, for all is
Relative, and the geocentric
Is just a more complicated
Model, no less correct.

Quantum physics suggests
That observation effects
Reality, We badly need
A new map of the galaxy.
On the old map, the Earth was
Our mother. Her womb was the sea, and
The sky-father fucked her on four
Elephants on the back of a tortoise.
In the old paradigm, stars
Ejaculated matter upon
Earth's primordial soup, where,
Life sprang forth as cosmic accident.

But on the new map observation
Effects outcome, nailing down the
Multi-verse to a single path, thus
Perception is indeed reality.
On the new map I revolve around
You- and you, I. Even as
Gravity takes its toll and
We grow older and feebler
Time and distance are the variables
And though time may flow differently for
Us all, it moves in one direction only.
Speed alone is the constant.

============ NOTES ============

Torre: This poem was rejected by a well known SF magazine because,
according to the editors feedback, it supports creationism and
inteligent design (Huh???? I don't get the editor's take on the poem, though
perhaps the editor is more concerned with her own personal politics,
or has come accross mine as stated elsewhere). I guess the
objectionable lines are "Earth's primordial soup, where, Life sprang
forth as cosmic accident."

Let me state unequivocally that I am not a creationist. I do not feel
the need to reject the theory of evolution as it relates to the flesh,
nor am I politically a proponant of inteligent design in that I don't
believe science will someday find physical evidence of God's design
in our genes or in the cosmos. In my opinion evidence of God's
existence is a matter of faith, not evidence.

I also feel that one should be free to believe or reject whatever
they want, so I don't demand that anyone agree with my views. I do
however feel them to be true, and that there are dire consequences
for rejecting that truth. In that spirit I feel compelled to state
that I do believe that we were created by God, in the image and
likeness of God and thus our true beings are not bound by flesh nor
subject to material limitations. I believe we were endowed by our
creator with freedom of choice, and that we are the authors of our
own attitudes and actions. We are not an accident of chemistry
(even if our fleshly boddies are), and we have a destiny and a
purpose: the meaning of life, our purpose, Is to love and be loved.

I also believe in Jesus, that He was not merely a rabi or prophet but
God become flesh and the Word of God become man, to overcome death
and sin and to reveal to us that we are not these fleshly bodies
but spiritual creations of God. The consequences of rejecting this
truth are sin, and death, and the grave. The rewards are life
everlasting, peace that surpasses our understanding, joy, and power;
the power to overcome worldly desires, sins, sorrows, poverty,
deprevaty, pain and death.

I believe that if you confess with you mouth Jesus as Lord, and
believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall
be saved. In other words, I believe that if you don't accept God, you
are caught in the undertow of sin, disease, and death and I would be
remiss if I didn't throw you a life line. This does not mean I am
going to hit you over the head with it. You are welcome to believe I
am mistaken, but neither of our beliefs will alter the truth.

Thus, I invite you to pray this prayer:

Heavenly Father, in Jesus' name I repent of my sins and open my
heart to you to fill me with your Holy Spirit. I accept Jesus as my
Lord and Savior and believe that he died for my sins and overcame
death and gave me the right to become a child of God. Amen.
