MONUMENT
To my mother....

More of you
Is buried in me
Than any grave can hold.
Who can write on a stone
What you etched on my heart?

Who would even try
To bracket a life
With a pair of dates
As if the dates mattered?

And, "beloved wife and mother",
Who can contain you
In a pair of titles?
No one!

But I knew you well,
And know you still.
So I will live my life
As your monument.
