TETHERED PONY

Wendy when your hair waved in the warm summer wind
I thought about the ryefield where we lay
Strainin' at our innocence, but briddled from within
On a day so long ago and far away

We lay just holding hands beneath an Autum sky
Where clouds became white horses in our minds
Then we walked to the woods edge,
and we picked some wild flowers
Such a simple day the gentlest of times

Nowadays, when I look back it always makes me lonely
Seems like it was only yesterday
Our love was bridled like a teatherd pony
That only wants the chance to run and play

I'd like to set him free to run the rye feild
To dance just like the wind accross the grass
His velvet nose all scented with the wild flowers,
And the taste of gentle sweetness his at last.

Wendy did you know your hair's the color of the rye
Once the sun has turned it all to gold
And did you know the other day, when you met my eye
Just how many memories glances hold?
